Photography by Van Pelt, Inc. is operated by Cody Van Pelt. He and his wife Emily started the business several years ago, and they now photograph around thirty weddings per year. He attributes that success to their relationship with Jesus Christ. Cody’s start with photography happened around 1988 when he was twelve. His brother, Kirk, had a studio in his family’s home, so as Cody says, “I got a good free education from him!” And as his Kirk’s education grew, so did Cody’s. Kirk took college courses, and when the instructor saw Cody sitting in the hall waiting for Kirk, he said, “Well don’t just sit there, grab your Dad’s SLR and learn something.” So he did it. And, as Cody would tell you, “I got a good free education there too.” Cody went on to study graphic design and get his Associates of Arts. After moving to Maui with Emily, he became an underwater photographer. That led to portraits and weddings when they moved back to Colorado. They now specialize in weddings and babies (along with maternity photos).
They love enjoying Colorado with their family by enjoying casual biking, especially in the spring and fall (Cody’s two favorite seasons). “My love for photography makes me stop and see Colorado’s beauty even when I don’t have a camera in my hand. We live in such a beautiful state, but I would walk right by that beauty if I wasn’t thinking about how to photograph it!”
